Description
100 Series Torsion Bars
Rocky Road’s Swayaway torsion bars are a high-performance direct replacement for your stock bars, available in a wide range of diameters to allow you to choose the right spring rate for your application. These torsion bars are made with heat-treated aircraft grade alloy steel and centerless ground for vastly improved durability and consistent spring rate.
These bars are available as a solid or hollow bar, the difference between the two being strictly weight. There is a misconception that hollow bars respond faster than solid bars. There is no difference other than weight. In fact, we size the minor diameter of the bar so that it has the same spring rate as a solid bar. If you want to save weight, buy tubular.
Swayaway torsion bars typically have a spring rate that is 20% higher than OE bars to provide the proper strength for a heavier bumper and winch.
100 Series Torsion Bars Features:
- Manufactured from solid alloy steel
- Heat treated for increased strength
- Centerless ground for consistent outside diameter and rate
- Powder coated to resist corrosion
A torsion bar in a truck is a long steel spring that twists to absorb impacts and support weight. This acts like a coil spring but taking up less space. Torsion bars are commonly used in front suspensions for ride height adjustability and compact design. Instead of compressing, it twists along its axis. Typically one end fixed to the frame, and the other to a control arm. Thus, providing the spring force to absorb bumps and support the vehicle. Torsion bars allow for easy “cranking” or adjustment by tightening a bolt on the torsion key, which raises the front of the truck, making them popular for leveling or lifting.

Anchored Ends: One end of the steel bar is fixed to the truck’s frame, and the other connects to the lower control arm.
Twisting Motion: When the wheel hits a bump, the control arm twists the bar. The bar resists this twisting (torsional resistance) to absorb the shock.
Spring Action: This resistance provides the spring force, returning the wheel to its original position, similar to a coil spring.
Space-Saving: Its compact, straight design saves valuable space in the engine bay for other components.
Adjustable Ride Height: A bolt on the torsion key can be tightened to increase tension, raising the front of the truck.
Robustness: It offers the durability needed for tough truck applications while providing independent suspension for comfort and control.
Front Suspension: Most often found in the front suspension of 4×4 trucks and SUVs.
Leveling & Lifting: Used for “cranking” the front end up to level a truck or achieve a lift.
Heavy Loads: Upgraded heavy-duty torsion bars can support additional weight from winches or steel bumpers.
