While Rocky Road is famous for our Jeep High Steer kits featured in numerous 4WD publications and on TV…. we also manufacture the highest quality high steer kit on the market for Samurais as well.

As featured in 4WD&Sport Utility Magazine, the Rocky Road Over-The-Top steering systems replace the factory Suzuki parts with a Samurai high steer system. A true knuckle over system to ELIMINATE bumpsteer. The strength and performance of this high steer system blows all other kits out of the water. The arms are carved from solid machine stock steel with horizontal grain. This makes them incredibly strong! We also include a Grade8 or better bolt mounting to eliminate sheer possibility. Our Samurai high steer system incorporates caliper mounting and king pin mounting (most other systems only bolt to one or the other) so that the arm is held solidly on two planes and is incredibly strong.

The steering kit is available in 2 stages. Those who purchase a Stage 1 steering system may simply add on the extra components from the Stage 2 at a later time if desired. Will work with Left Hand Drive or Right Hand Drive Suzukis.

Stage 1 kit provides passenger side knuckle, new drag link, ball joints, mounting hardware.
Stage 2 kit provides all Stage 1 pieces, driver’s side knuckle mount, new tie rod, all ball joints and hardware.

Samurai High Steer Sizing

One size fits all? Don’t think so. Some shops peddling Samurai knuckle over systems use the same drag link for a 4″ lift as for a 12″ lift. This is not only poor engineering, but also potentially dangerous. Our OTT steering systems are built specifically for your lift height. One size does NOT fit all.

Oversteer & Understeer With Samurai High Steer Systems

Another issue of other kits is OVERsteer. This is especially true for those cross-over systems with the swing-arm. Great gimmick, they look nifty, they are spooky on the highway because everything you do at the steering wheel is magnified dramatically at the tires. Oversteer is like having a gear system that creates hypersensitivity at the at the tires which is really a bad thing and can be dangerous. Understeer is another issue with other systems on the market. The design of the steering arm on a couple competitors’ kits is such that you have to make dramatic changes at the steering wheel for anything to happen at the tires. This isn’t dangerous like the oversteer situation, but the reduction in turning radius can be really annoying on the road and trail. At Rocky Road, we’ve engineered the system to operate just right. This is a drag link for our Samurai high steer system. The knuckle arms in the OTT kit are cut from machine grade steel with horizontal grain. This makes them SUPER strong and they have a lifetime warranty. The kit comes with a Grade 8 or higher bolting AND a caliper mounting system and hardware. Stage 1 puts your drag link to the top of the axle and ELIMINATES bumpsteer on most lifts. Comes with easily serviced grease zerk fitted rod end. Tubing is from 1/4″ DOM. Compare this kit to others on the market for $275+.

Samurai High Steer, OTT Stage II Upgrade:

This kit can be combined with the Stage 1 equipment. The Stage II upgrade, when combined with the Stage I, puts the entire steering system over the top of your springs for not only no bumpsteer, but also protection against trail damage. Again, the hardware and mounting system is super strong and tubing is from 1/4″ DOM. The arms carry a lifetime warranty. The super strong tubing allows no flex and delivers very tight steering characteristics. All rod ends are standard auto parts store and easily replaceable for servicing down the road.

HOW DOES THE RRO KIT STACK UP TO OUR COMPETITION?
Theirs… you must remove and drill out your pitman arm with heavy warnings on not drilling too deep with the taper or you will ruin and have to purchase a new pitman arm. Having to drill and taper the hardened steel inside the pitman arm’s taper end is not good, nor easy. (Verdict… NOT GOOD).
Theirs… only mounts to the brake caliper bolts. RRO mounts to caliper bolts, and also integrates into the kingpin and top 4 bolts on each steering knuckle. They use a 2 point mounting system where Rocky Road uses a 7-point mount system. When it comes to steering, you can never be too strong or too safe (Verdict… NOT GOOD).
