TJ Rubicon 2 Inch Lift, Old Man Emu Spring design

TJ Rubicon 2 Inch Lift, OME Spring Design for the best ride comfort on the market.
Let’s face it.. there are dozens of different lift kits out there for your Jeep. What separates one from another? Even when we scan web searches, they all look the same. It is the pictures of the springs? Shocks? All the nice brackets and bits? Fancy colors? These pictures sure make those kits look nice. So how does one choose?

Underneath it all, underneath all the advertising, the flashy photos, the colorful vehicles, lies the foundation of any lift. The springs. All those lift kits you see all stacked up in the magazines and catalogs, they do have at least one thing in common… stiff riding springs.

Crummy springs are the bane of the Jeep 4×4 world….. prevalent, horrible, tough to identify. Advertising budgets and flashy colors in pictures make great camouflage for them. They’ll take your dream toy and turn it into something no one wants to ride in. Then, you curse every day you failed to research properly and wound up on those stiff big brand name springs. We will get into this in a bit…

TJ Rubicon Lift, with Old Man Emu Spring Design

Spring manufacture is a fine art which very few companies take the time to engineer properly. The largest names in the business are guilty of it. Mass producing cheap springs that ride brutally stiff. But, they sell well because of the insane markup that most 4×4 shops get on those springs. Meaning those shops really push those big name kits.

At Rocky Road, w have been excited to give US customers the highest quality springs and the design within the OME spring formula, but manufactured in the USA! There is no question about it, the world knows that springs using the OME based spring formula cannot beat for ride quality. These springs carry the OME engineering formula and production, but are manufactured in the USA with US grade steel, and we feel as fine or finer durability and comfort as the Aussie springs from OME Simply put, your ride quality is going to be far better than any other suspension on the market.

We also package in Rocky Road Long Travel shocks. We feel we have designed the best riding Long Travel shock found on the market today for moderate weight vehicles like our Jeeps. Other Brand-Name shocks are designed for vehicles thousands of lbs heavier (namely, pickup trucks), our engineered shocks are right on the money for a Jeep. Superbly valved for a great ride on road without being mushy offroad. All Trailblazer kits come with the RRO shocks.

Nitrogen gas, monotube shocks are available as an upgrade option (and are far superior to the OME Nitro shocks). These are a custom hand built and rebuildable Monotube shock system with aluminum body, massive main shaft, and exceptional cooling over the OME system.

Old Man Emu Spring Design, TJ Rubicon

  • Micro-Alloyed Spring Steel: Manufactured from advanced spring steel to deliver maximum structural strength and long-term durability under heavy loads.
  • Double Scragged and Shot Peened: Scrutinized and pre-set before and after shot peening to reduce internal spring stress and eliminate premature sagging.
  • Precision Mandrel Formed: Wound on computer-controlled mandrels to guarantee strict manufacturing consistency and a precise, OEM-style fit.
  • Durable Powder Coat Finish: Coated in a hard-wearing black powder finish that protects against mud, road salt, rocks, and corrosion.
  • Vehicle-Specific Engineering: Designed around individual make, model, and load capacity specifications rather than just arbitrary lift heights.

Each TJ Lift kit includes:

  • Front and rear Springs using the OME design parameters, front and rear. Simply put, the best riding spring on the market available in combination to provide the full 2-2.5″ lift height on our system.
  • Optional Long Travel shocks. A great soft riding shock designed for the lighter weight of the TJ. Rides like a dream on-road as opposed to other STIFF shocks.
  • Cover Photo Shows Optional Hand Built Monotube Nitro Shocks, aluminum body.
  • Adj Front Track Bar Option. Anytime you go over 2″ in lift, you should replace the front track bar to keep proper front axle alignment and handling. We have kits for both Left hand and Right hand drive Jeeps.
  • Main photo shows springs front and rear and Monotube Nitro Shock option.

This Deluxe Old Man Emu Spring Design based system, made in the USA, will completely transform the ride quality and driving experience on and offroad for your Jeep. They are not always the tallest lift on the planet, but are by far the highest quality. The typical lift achieved from a set of Old Man Emu Designed springs for the TJ, Wrangler, or Unlimited is about 2-2.5″

With Old Man Emu Spring Design, your ride quality improves over stock and dramatically so over other 2-3″ lift springs on the market. We tested many brands and kits and nothing came close to the overall ride comfort of the OME Spring Design formula. The design formula and production used on these springs, widely regarded as the best engineered suspension on the market for any vehicle.  Sensible lift height designed for maximum highway comfort and excellent offroadability.

Long Travel Shock System

  • Softer Ride. Low gas pressure makes shocks more forgiving and comfortable for everyday street driving. But valving & construction heavy duty for offroad use & abuse.
  • Lower Seal Stress. Low internal pressures place less friction & physical stress on internal seals, extending component life.
  • Damage Resistance. If outer casing receives a dent or ding from road debris, inner compression tube remains undamaged, functional.
  • Independent Valving Control. Dual-valve designs separate compression and rebound movements, allowing fine-tuning without unwanted side effects on opposing cycles.
  • Improved Ride Quality. Advanced valving systems absorb rough road impacts, reduce noise, vibration, & harshness.
  • Better Handling and Stability. Nitrogen gas-charging and specialized control technologies reduce vehicle body roll, sway. Also, bounce during sudden lane changes or turns. Better control for higher speed offroad fun.
  • Shorter Stopping Distances. Tires firmly planted on pavement helps vehicle brake faster, more securely in emergency, & more traction offroad.
  • Extended Component Life. Restoring proper ride control and comfort prevents premature, uneven tire wear. Also, protects fragile steering and suspension parts from excessive shock damage.
  • Enhanced Durability. Special anti-corrosion rod coatings, premium oil seals, and robust piston constructions help prevent fluid leaks and extend product lifespan.
  • High Velocity Speed Sensitive Valving.  The surge in fluid volume forces open internal shims or relief valves (often arranged in a shim stack) to manage the massive spike in energy, turning kinetic motion into controlled thermal heat without creating a dangerously rigid impact.
  • Massive 1 5/8 Piston Assembly.
  • Added Oil Capacity past the factory baselines to improve suspension performance, progression, and bottoming resistance
  • Built-in Bumpstops
  • Enhanced Suspension Flex 1-2″ more suspension flex at rear tires.
  • Cellular Nitrogen Gas. Nitrogen Gas Charged. Microscopic, sealed pockets of gas trapped inside a dense, closed-cell foam sleeve rather than floating freely as a loose gas charge. This design is more commonly known as foam cell technology

Optional Rear Shock System:

Handbuilt Nitrogen Charged Monotube Rebuildable Shock System. State-of-the-Art Monotube shock technology provides the maximum combination in both comfort and control. Cooler operating temperatures, lighter weight and bigger bore size combine to outperform a conventional twin-tube shock.

The performance begins with 14mm super-finished, hardened, chrome-plated piston rods designed to endure the most punishing pavement or off-road endeavors.

A chamber full of HIGH PRESSURE NITROGEN GAS and FLOATING PISTON TECHNOLOGY results in the quickest responding shock absorber ever engineered. A big 46mm bore reacts faster to bumps and absorbs impact with extreme quickness. Achieve maximum control through APPLICATION-TUNED VALVING.

Experience greater performance with a state-of-the-art SEAMLESS TUBE DESIGN which keeps the shock’s operating temperature cooler. This, in turn, gives you long-lasting performance.

The 2.0 Mono-Tube Shock is a rebuildable, re-valvable shock that is custom built to customers specifications.
