The Rocky Road kit comes with the Rack, and our Steel Side Rail system all in a single package. This is without question, the very strongest roof rack on the market. We understand there is a new trend for flat plate bolt-together rack setups. Those kits admittedly look very pretty, stylish. The simple fact is that those side plates with extruded aluminum spars in between, are far weaker in dynamic load carrying situations (offroad). The aluminum can and does fracture. The small metal screws that tap into the aluminum extrusions and hold to the flat side rails, can work loose inside the soft aluminum.
Those pretty flat panel racks have strength ratings far below that of our welded steel tube rack system. If you’re looking for something that can hold an RTT, fuel, water, spare tire, heavy equipment on top, and do it reliably in rough overlanding situations, the Rocky Road kit is simply the very strongest and utilitarian on the market.

The Jeep Cherokee KL rack provides a great carrying system at the lowest of low profiles. This provides excellent advantage to wind resistance and maximum fuel economy. All of our accessory mounts pop on and off in a minute so you can customize your rack however you want, by yourself, in a moment’s notice to again maximize fuel economy and flexibility of use. Our photos will show the rack decked out with our cool Offroad and Overlanding accessories, but the rack doesn’t NEED to be accessorized. Many people will just want a rack kit for carrying camping gear, boxes, skis/snowboards, kayaks, and so on. Our racks will with with many universal Thule and Yakima mounting kits and cargo containers.
Cherokee KL Roof Top Tent Capable Rack
Another benefit of the Rocky Road rack system… the large area in the rear deck where the spare tire is kept and a desire to better utilize that space with our tire carrier. So we have designed the Rocky Road rack system come with an optional tire mount which allows you to move the tire up onto your roof and really open up that space in the rear cargo area quite a bit.
2014+ Cherokee Rack system
- The spare tire mount. We use a prerunner style mount. This is with an easy to use T-handle for tightening and securing. See our note above about why this is a great option for your 2014+ Cherokee!
- You can pack along extra items such as an axe, shovel, axe and shovel. Feel free to carry anything else with a similar handle using our accessory mount.
- The HiLift jack mount gives you a nice secure place to store this essential offroad tool. We use an official HiLift jack mount kit which allows you to lock your jack into place if you wish. TIP: Watch your placement of this kit if you’re using a 48″ jack for tailgate clearance when the gate is up…
- Our forward light mount gives you a great place to mount auxiliary offroad lights. Our mount put them up high to rid that glare you get from lower mounted lights. Can also be mounted on the rear of the rack as well.
- Fuel or water carriers are a great item to have along for a weekend adventure, or your dream overlanding adventure. Our racks allow an assortment of fuel or water cans to be used. The single can carrier kit holds 2 containers.
Cherokee KL Roof Cross-bar kit
ALSO AVAILABLE: For those who do not want the full rack kit, but just a set of crossbars. The crossbar kit allows Yakima mounts, Thule, and others. This kit consists of crossbars which span from one side rail to the other (still requires our steel roof rail kit).
This kit is an excellent alternative to the flimsy thin stock crossbars Jeep is selling direct from dealerships. Did we mention those are flimsy? Ya… flimsy. The incredibly strong RRO rack system (and/or the Crossbar kit) does require the Rocky Road steel roof rails which are included in the roof rack system.
These steel rails bolt to the factory mounting points in the tracks on your roof. All bolton, no cutting, drilling, or other modification needed. Mounts tight and secure for the most rugged on and offroad use. Perfect for the overlanding, or for just traveling around town. Rocky Road steel rails will also work for other rack systems which may come to market in coming years.
Cherokee Heavy Duty Rack kit
The Jeep Cherokee KL Roof Rack system is built around a super sturdy 1.25″ tube frame. All components easily bolt into place. Anyone in possession of a wrench can mount this kit up. All components come in a very durable black powdercoat finish.
